Welcome to Tempranillo Restaurant, where internationally acclaimed chef Javier Gonzalez-Bringas, a Madrid native, combines an old-world style with a new-world flair in his signature cuisine. The name Tempranillo, itself, pays homage to one of Spain’s premier grape varieties, and true to its name, the restaurant features a selection of over one hundred hand-chosen wines.
Celebrating over ten wonderful years in historic Downtown Basalt, we have a gorgeous restaurant Patio that makes social distancing feel normal. Sit at our historic bar to enjoy our weekday bar specials.

Meet the Founders
JAVIER GONZALES-BRINGAS &
A Madrid native, Javier brings a passion for fine Spanish wine and cuisine to Tempranillo’s expansive menu. Upon coming to America in 1979, Javier blended his talents for spanish cooking with inventive nouveau Italian cuisine at Manhattan’s Mezzaluna Restaurant. Javier led the expansion of a new Mezzaluna in Aspen, Espana in Aspen and Mambo Italiano in Carbondale. Laura Maine had extensive experience as the owner of her own restaurant, River Valley Ranch Golf Coarse. Once Javier met Laura they joined forces and became unstoppable with the creation of Tempranillo Restaurant in Historic Basalt in 2006 partly because of the gorgeous restaurant patio. With Laura’s extensive food and beverage knowledge combined with Javier’s passion for Spanish food, they have created the best restaurant in Basalt. Javier and Laura reside with their two children at their ranch in Missouri Heights.

“To carry out Tempranillo’s passion for the best ingredients, we embarked to make our Missouri Heights Ranch a productive farm raising chickens, pigs and cattle as well as seasonal organic vegetables. During the summer months, fresh herbs are grown on Tempranillo’s grounds and local produce is sourced from the farmers’ market to create authentic dishes with a rich depth of flavors. We currently raise free range Iberico Black Spanish pigs and are cross breeding with Berkshire hogs. We also raise free range chickens and harvest fresh eggs. What we cannot source locally, we hand select the best imports to create authentic Mediterranean cuisine.
Javier travels back to Spain annually to add to the wide mix of imported ingredients and flavors to the Tempranillo menu. Tempranillo Ranch affords the opportunity to integrate these flavors from a local setting. Tempranillo has won the Diners Choice award as well as Best Mediterranean Restaurant in the area.” -Laura
